What are Ethernet Extenders?
Ethernet Extenders are modules that can be used on existing Ethernet cabling and allow users to
drive their Ethernet segments beyond the IEEE 802.3 specifications for distance limitation of 328 feet or 100 meters.
Ethernet extenders drive longer range, high-speed data communication
between geographically separated LANs or LAN devices and create very
cost effective bridged-Ethernet connections. Ethernet Extenders can be used for Point-to-Point (Backbone) runs or
Point-to-Multipoint (Ethernet DSLAM - Digital subscriber line access Mux
- telephone wiring install) and are typically deployed in Commercial,
Residential, Industrial and Hospitality High Speed Internet Access
environments. Ethernet Extenders can be referred to as Network
extenders, LAN extenders and Ethernet cable extenders and use a variety
of transmission technologies over physical media such as copper or
fiber. Extenders that use copper wiring operate on 1 or 2 pair
unconditioned wiring (POTS) up to category rated twisted pair
(CAT3...CAT6).
Key Benefits of using Ethernet Extenders
► Plug and Play modular units - uses common RJ-45 Ethernet jacks
►
Use existing copper wiring (1 or 2 pair) untwisted telephone up to Category rated twisted pair
►
Huge Cost saving over traditional copper and Fiber solutions
►
Installs in minutes - have your remote office LAN up in minutes
Why use Ethernet Extenders?
Ethernet Extenders eliminate the need for installing expensive 802.3 repeaters, twisted
pair (CAT5/CAT6) cabling, or fiber and associated fiber transceivers.
Ethernet Extenders provide the most cost effective solutions for any LAN
extension project, including Wireless Access Point installation, POE
(Power over Ethernet), IP Security Camera and POS (Point of Sale)
applications.
Ethernet Extenders create effective seamless LAN connections across
disparate LANs in office parks, across streets, around college campuses,
joining remote buildings or within large enterprise businesses. Data
communication in extreme environments such as diving bells, mining
shafts, outdoor entertainment venues, movie theaters, Cruise ships, remote island neighbors, Antarctic remote
monitoring stations, Marinas, International Space Station and Military
troops in the field have all benefited from the use of Ethernet Extender Kits.
